The Highland Council is updating its Local Transport Strategy, which sets out how it will manage and modernise the transport network across the region in the coming years. The Case for Change is the first stage in this process and is about gathering evidence; this consultation seeks your views on it.

The feedback we receive now will be used to help develop a draft of the updated Local Transport Strategy, which will then itself go out for consultation later in the year.

The survey questionnaire seeks your views on the key findings from the report. The questionnaire and the full Case for Change Report are available here.

This consultation is open for 8 weeks, closing on Monday 29^th May. Please feel free to share this email with your networks.

Hello everybody

We are hosting an interactive and informational event about digital technologies which can help people live safely, happily, healthily and independently at home – there will be an opportunity to talk to suppliers, see demonstrations and try out some of the technology. 

Everybody is welcome – the event is for ordinary people, patients, service users, family members, carers, health care staff and third sector staff. It will be of particular interest to people living with (or supporting people with) dementia, learning disability, long term health condition, mobility problems, frailty etc.

If you think this event would be suitable for your audience, we would really appreciate your help to spread the word by:

• Sharing the poster on social media (perhaps next week and again a week before the event, below are some suggestions for text)
• Popping the poster into any newsletters or emails you are already sending out
• Displaying the poster in your workplace (we can send you a hard copy)
• Letting your colleagues know the event is happening

At the event, we will have a table where you are very welcome to leave any leaflets about your organisation and services. Simply pop along with your leaflets at 10 am, then come back at 3pm to collect any leftover supplies.

Covid, Colds, and Flu related information

Funding  

SCVO  is a key source of funding information for the third sector. Funds that may be of interest include:

• Henry Smith Charity – Strengthening CommunitiesDesigned to support small charitable organisations working at grassroots level in the most disadvantaged areas of the UK. Applications can be submitted at any time. 
• The McCorquodale Charitable Trust

Funds a wide variety of charitable organisations. Applications can be submitted at any time.

• Sir Iain Stewart Foundation
  The fund has broad purposes, but favours children, older people and small, local projects. Applications can be submitted at any time.

Social Isolation and Loneliness Fund 2023 – 2026 
Scottish government funding to support projects and organisations to facilitate progress towards the priorities of A Connected Scotland (2018) strategy and contribute to the recovery and reduction in societal harm associated with the Covid-19 pandemic and mitigate the impact of the ongoing cost of living crisis. Application deadline 31 March 2023.

Cost of Living Suppport ScotlandNational Lottery funding from £10,001 to £75,000 for projects to help support individuals, families and communities currently experiencing hardship as a result of the cost-of-living increases. The programme aims to fund activity that reduces the impact of, or prevents financial insecurity so that people have more resilience and are more able to identify ways to deal with the impact of increased cost of living in their lives, are able to shape activity in their community to address the increased cost-of-living, and have more access to support and services that will help them to deal with the increased cost of living. 

Welfare, poverty reduction and resilience

• Highland Cares Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Training – Between April and June the Highland Council Education Psychology Team will be hosting a new training series. Trainings on offer are supporting teenage mental health, suicide awareness, and trauma informed. The training will be run online via Google Meets, booking is not needed, and links and descriptions are included in the attached document. 
• Emergency Alert System Launched – The Cabinet Office has launched a new system allowing government and emergency services the capability to send an alert directly to mobile phones when there is a risk to life. A UK-wide alerts test will take place in the early evening of 23 April which will see people receive a test message on their mobile phones.

• Highland Adapts – This story map platform has been created to help capture lived experiences of weather and climate change within the Highlands. These stories will help us better understand future opportunities and risks.

Community Support and Engagement

Highland Council

On Monday at the Community Council meeting we were shown a parking plan. The parking in the village is a problem and this proposal attempts to remedy the cars parking all over the streets in the village and blocking the junction. I have attached a picture that Highland Council have drawn up as a point for discussion. This proposal is not a given and will be subject to local consultation and finding a funding source to pay for it.

There will be future opportunities to review the plan but if you have any comments please feel free to forward them to secdorescc@gmail.com.

On the plan you can see on the right a junction which will be the new entrance to the cemetery. The proposed car park will be down below the road and going towards the play park. The bigger bays on the right of the plan you can see 4 large boxes for buses and 6 medium boxes for camper vans. The merits of having those was talked about, but we will be guided by the feedback from the Community.
